The Public Works Research Institute (PWRI) of Japan is seeking candidates for
ICHARM research assistantship positions as follows.

| 6. Background of Recruitment: |
| |
In recent years, water-related disasters become more frequent throughout the world and cause serious damage especially to developing countries prone to such disasters. To prevent or mitigate such damage, ICHARM conducts research in technology and strategy for river management and worldwide mitigation of water-related disaster damage. The institute also provides training in those fields for trainees mainly from developing countries. ICHARM is seeking a researcher with advanced expertise and competence required for those projects. |
| 7. Main Responsibilities: |

The position requires conducting research in technology and strategy for river management and worldwide mitigation of water-related disaster damage. Also, the researcher will be required to teach trainees mainly from developing countries and supervise their research activities. |
| 8. Qualifications: |
| 1) |
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in river-related issues or water-related disasters at the time of application. |
| 2) |
Applicants must have sufficient ability and achievement to publish peer-reviewed research papers in river-related issues or water-related disasters. |
| 3) |
Applicants must have a good command of English for paper writing, communication and lectures. |
| 4) |
It is desirable that applicants have teaching experience at the university level. |

| Working days & hours: |
Monday through Friday; 8:30-17:15 (The flex time arrangement is also available.) |
| Salary: |
The starting salary depends on qualifications and years of relevant experience (JPY330,000~). Bonuses are provided twice a year (June, December). Other allowances are also provided e.g., for overtime and commuting. |
| House: |
Government housing is available. |

| 1) |
Annual paid leave: 15 days in the first year. 20 days from the second year on. Paid leave can be carried over up to 20 days from the previous year. |

Special paid leave: Three days for summer vacation. |

Other leaves are also available based on the employment regulations. |

| 10. Selection: |
Applicants who pass the first document screening will be interviewed. The most qualified applicant will be selected for the position based on experience in the field, research achievement, teaching experience, understanding of research goals, motivation, English skills, etc. The interview will be conducted in the beginning of April at the PWRI Tsukuba Office (1-6 Minamihara, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan). |
