It is a revision of "Construction Sludge Recycle Guidelines" published in 1999 for the purpose of improving recycling of construction sludge. Along with the revision, detailed explanation about criterion for construction sludge, new recycling technologies and abundant recycle case studies have been added. It is a comprehensible technical book for workers to handle various problems on site.

This book has been complied based on the findings of joint research conducted by PWRI and Japan Anchor Association, which consists of a group of anchor constructors who actually install anchors. It provides perspectives about maintenance management ding ground anchor inspection and soundness level investigation/countermeasures to ensure long-term ground anchor functions as well as to maintain stability and safety of slopes and structures.

Fluidization process is a method to fill small gaps, which earthwork compaction cannot be easily applied, by casting various soils on site fluidized with fixative as main materials. This method can provide stable strength and high density. This manual is a second revision of "Fluidization Processed Soil Utilization Manual (First edition)" published in 1997 as achievements of the joint research to take into consideration of recent social trends and technological advancements.

ALiCC method has been developed as a countermeasure for soft ground and forms pile-shaped cement-based ground improvement in the ground same as the deep cement mixing method. It is characterized by smaller rate of improvement compared to the deep cement mixing method by considering arch effects of mound. This manual intends to verify technical aspects in relation to ALiCC investigation and design methods.

This manual discusses how to expedite and simplify extraction process and refining process in terms of preprocessing of specimens as well as quantitative analysis method and how to combine and apply these methods depending on usages.

Public Works Research Institute has conducted many studies on recycling wastes including general wastes and industrial wastes from industries other than the construction industry to diversify technical subjects for conventional utilization of wastes and expand utilization areas. PWRI has compiled a part of those achievements into "Manual for Evaluating Recycle Materials from Other Industries for test constructions in public works (Draft)" (PWRI research material No. 3667, September 1999).
This manual has added research and development achievements from inside and outside PWRI as well as improved the contents on the assumption of willingly utilizing recycle materials from other industries.

This manual is a sister book of "Manual of Countermeasures for Ground Contamination in Construction Works (Provisional edition)" and was published following requests for dioxin contamination countermeasures. Even a small amount of dioxin contains high toxicity, which poses practically and technically difficult issues in terms of analysis, countermeasures and monitoring. Based on these dioxin characteristics, this manual provides technically feasible countermeasures on site as well as present countermeasure case studies.

Basic Law for Building the Zero-Waste Society was proclaimed in June 2000 to establish a society capable of restraining natural resource consumption, reducing environment loads and developing continually. Act on the Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources and Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law were also proclaimed, which require business organizations to promote reuse of recycled resources and wastes.
This manual intends to summarize recycling methods to take advantages of the regulations and wood characteristics mainly for usages on construction sites in terms of construction surplus timbers. It also provides case studies.

Japan highly depends on surface water including rivers and lakes for most of domestic noncommercial water and has great interest in traces of chemical contamination in water areas such as rivers and lakes. Environmental contamination by endocrine-disrupting compounds is fresh in our memory, but traces of chemical contamination with biologically active agent such as drug medicine is getting social attention lately as a relevant issue. Japan has just started researches on contamination actual conditions by drug medicine in water environment and sewage as well as studies on influences on ecosystems.
This manual has organized drug-related information collected so far and summarized physical and chemical information as a basis for chemical substances consisted in drug medicine. Total of 115 chemical substances have been categorized by medicinal properties in terms of ethical pharmaceuticals with domestic sales of more than 10 billion yen for 2002.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism issued instructions "About surplus soil utilization standard" on March 31, 2004 to institutions concerned to effectively utilize construction surplus soils. It reviewed the instructions "Surplus soil utilization standard (Draft)" issued by the former Ministry of Construction on July 1994 and it expanded the range to construction works related to the former Ministry of Transport and was provided to prefectural and city governments as well as government-designated cities to further promote.
Based on environmental and recycle administrative trends as well as technological advancement after the second edition in 1997, this manual has been thoroughly revised to technologically describe operations of the above-mentioned "Surplus soil utilization standard." It intends to encourage smooth utilization of surplus soils by explaining basic ideas, soil improvement methods and quality assurance methods in utilizing surplus soils.

This manual discusses perspectives and technical matters on research, investigation and monitoring necessary to safely proceed with construction works while preventing secondary expansion of contamination by constructions to circumference in case of soil contamination and contaminated groundwater within the business segment. It also describes regulations in relation to soil contamination countermeasures.

It is a manual for inspecting soundness level of concrete structures with various nondestructive testing has been added to conventional visual inspections. It is useful in formulating maintenance and management plans for concrete structure inspections, investigations and repairs.

This manual has summarized basic matters to pay attention to in utilizing normal eco-cement as reinforcing concrete materials.
