Abstract

ALiCC method has been developed as a countermeasure for soft ground and forms pile-shaped cement-based ground improvement in the ground same as the deep cement mixing method. Abstract

Public Works Research Institute has conducted many studies on recycling wastes including general wastes and industrial wastes from industries other than the construction industry to diversify technical subjects for conventional utilization of wastes and expand utilization areas. PWRI has compiled a part of those achievements into "Manual for Evaluating Recycle Materials from Other Industries for test constructions in public works (Draft)" (PWRI research material No. 3667, September 1999).
This manual has added research and development achievements from inside and outside PWRI as well as improved the contents on the assumption of willingly utilizing recycle materials from other industries.

Abstract

This manual is a sister book of "Manual of Countermeasures for Ground Contamination in Construction Works (Provisional edition)" and was published following requests for dioxin contamination countermeasures. Abstract

Basic Law for Building the Zero-Waste Society was proclaimed in June 2000 to establish a society capable of restraining natural resource consumption, reducing environment loads and developing continually. Act on the Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources and Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law were also proclaimed, which require business organizations to promote reuse of recycled resources and wastes.

Abstract

Japan highly depends on surface water including rivers and lakes for most of domestic noncommercial water and has great interest in traces of chemical contamination in water areas such as rivers and lakes. Environmental contamination by endocrine-disrupting compounds is fresh in our memory, but traces of chemical contamination with biologically active agent such as drug medicine is getting social attention lately as a relevant issue. Japan has just started researches on contamination actual conditions by drug medicine in water environment and sewage as well as studies on influences on ecosystems.
This manual has organized drug-related information collected so far and summarized physical and chemical information as a basis for chemical substances consisted in drug medicine. Total of 115 chemical substances have been categorized by medicinal properties in terms of ethical pharmaceuticals with domestic sales of more than 10 billion yen for 2002.

Abstract

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism issued instructions "About surplus soil utilization standard" on March 31, 2004 to institutions concerned to effectively utilize construction surplus soils. It reviewed the instructions "Surplus soil utilization standard (Draft)" issued by the former Ministry of Construction on July 1994 and it expanded the range to construction works related to the former Ministry of Transport and was provided to prefectural and city governments as well as government-designated cities to further promote.
Based on environmental and recycle administrative trends as well as technological advancement after the second edition in 1997, this manual has been thoroughly revised to technologically describe operations of the above-mentioned "Surplus soil utilization standard." It intends to encourage smooth utilization of surplus soils by explaining basic ideas, soil improvement methods and quality assurance methods in utilizing surplus soils.
