Landslides and slope collapse triggered by Noto Peninsula Earthquake (March 2007) |
A number of landslides and slope collapse were confirmed after the earthquake of magnitude 6.9 hit Noto Peninsular on 25 th March, 2007 (seismic intensity: 6-high). Officially requested by Ishikawa Prefecture, Landslide Team investigated totally 6 landslides on 28th March and 6th April in Wajima City and advised how to install countermeasures.

Slope collapse - Machino, Haseno Domon - (28th Mar 07)
Distorted rock shed | Looking down from the collapsed site. The rock shed of the left photo is seen in the middle left. |
Collapsed area (encircled). Width: 50 m, height: 20 m, approx. The area was highly weathered and colourd brown. The block collapsed was supported by the solid gray rocks in the lower half of the photo. | Some cracks still exist near the collapsed site. |

Collapse occurred in the landslide (V=2,000m3) |
An unstable block with cracks is still seen in the upper slope.(encircled area). Scarp is about 10 m high. |

Landslide crack - Monzen, Kaiso - (28th Mar 07)
Landmass sunk about a meter over 30 m length at the top of the landslide.
|
Damaged anchors on the landslide. The blue plastic cover of the left photo is seen in the upper left. |
Damaged concrete frames installed on the landslide |
Enlarged photo of a damaged anchor (photo above) |

Arrow indicates a crack stretching about 20m. The crack forms steps at some places (height: 0-40 cm) |
Step seen along the crack |

Landslide - Monzen, Fukami - (6th Apr 07)
Landslide (encircled by a broken line). A large boulder was also found on the road (circled, see the photo below). |
Landslide. Scarp is about 20m in height. An unstable block still exists on the right side of the slope. Water was leaking out in encircled areas. |
Crack on the ridge line. Width is >1.0m. |
Crack in the middle of the slope. Rock fall was frequent. |
A large boulder found on the road. | Debris deposited at the toe of the landslide. |

Landslide. A crack was found along the area covered by blue plastic sheet. The landslide partly collapsed (encircled by a broken line) in the area of 40m in width and 50m in length. |
Collapsed area |
Scarp of the collapsed area (H: 8m).
|
Step of 20 cm in height at the top of the slope (under blue plastic cover). |
Collapsed surface. Slope is 42°. Scratches paralleling to the surface were also found.
