A.W. JAYAWARDENA
Research and Training Advisor
He, a native of Sri Lanka,
has been teaching in the Department of Civil Engineering,
The University of Hong Kong for over 25 years before joining
ICHARM. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of
Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK.
He has been a member of the Engineering Panel of the Hong
Kong Research Grants Council, University Grants Committee,
and recently been a Member of the International Panel
to evaluate UNESCO's contribution to World Water Assessment
Programme. |

Katsuhito MIYAKE
Chief Researcher
He was born in Okayama, Japan.
After entering public service, He has experienced several
international activities such as working at World Meteorological
Organization and engagement in Typhoon Committee Hydrological
Component. With these background, he is willing to contribute
to the purpose of ICHARM - disaster risk reduction of
the people. |

Yoganath ADIKARI
Research Specialist
He, born and raised in Bhutanese
Shangrilla, went to university in the Philippines under
USAID programme.. He finished doctoral degree specializing
in erosion control in March 2001 from Hokkaido University.
He has been working on erosion and vegetation connection
in volcanically devastated areas and land-use, while under
JSPS programme at Hokkaido University and later at Forestry
and Forest Products Research Institute, in Japan and the
Asia-Pacific. His present interests are water-related
disasters and risk management, glacier lake outburst floods,
desertification, land-use and geoecology. |

Kyoko TAKAHASHI
Asistant
It has been 8 years since she
moved back to Tsukuba where she was born. She has worked
as a secretary in a medical lab in Tsukuba University
for 6 and half years and one and half years in Building
Research Institute. |

Ali CHAVOSHIAN
Research Specialist
He is from Tehran, Iran. He
was awarded the doctoral degree on Integrated River Basin
Management (IRBM) by the center of excellence at the University
of Yamanashi, Japan. He has several publications and presentations
on distributed hydrological modeling, prediction in ungauged
basin and water hazard and risk management. Ali has working
experience in water resources management area and lecturing
on this subject.

Dinar ISTIYANTO
Research Specialist
He, an Indonesian genuine,
was awarded the Doctoral Degree in 2000 from Kagoshima
University in the field of Coastal Engineering. Since
joining Coastal Dynamic Research Center of Agency for
the Assessment and Application of Technology, Indonesia
in 1990, he has been involved in many coastal erosion
countermeasure activities, design of river mouth stabilization,
as well as design of sea port basin. H e also pays special
attention on the design and construction of rubble mound
breakwater. He has been involved in tsunami related hazard
investigation since 1992. Under JICA grant scheme, in
2001 he started to investigate the role of mangrove forest
in reducing tsunami wave height over the beach and collect
data for tsunami risk analysis. |
