- I am Md Shahinur Rahman. I am working in Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) as an Executive Engineer under Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR), responsible for water resources management and development in our country. Japan and Bangladesh are located geologically and meteorologically in an environment vulnerable to water-related disasters. But disaster and development coexist in Japan. Japan has a long history of successfully dealing with flood, river bank erosion, sedimentation, mudflows and landslides, which often occur after heavy rainfall. GRIPS is one of the leading Japan’s policy research institutes with world class standards. ICHARM is the global centre of excellence for water related disaster management under the auspices of UNESCO. JICA works for human security and quality growth. My career goal is to contribute to ensuring food security, poverty alleviation and water-related disaster management by addressing the adverse effects of climate change in line with strategic plans for flood control, development of drainage and irrigation systems, prevention of river erosion, land reclamation, salinity mitigation and integrated coastal zone management; enhancing public participation in integrated water resources management for Bangladesh as well as for the entire mankind. Therefore, studying in GRIPS and ICHARM with the support of the JICA Long Term Training Program for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) to Implement the Sendai Framework program, would be the best opportunity to conduct research in the field of Disaster risk reduction (DRR) to learn advanced DRR knowledge and technologies.
