Landslides and slope collapse triggered by Tyuetsu offshore Earthquake (July 2007)

A number of landslides and slope collapse were confirmed after the earthquake of  magnitude 6.8 hit Tyuetsu offshore on 16 th July, 2007 (seismic intensity: 6-high). Officially requested by Niigata Prefecture, Landslide Team investigated totally 4 landslides on 19th July in Kashiwazaki City and advised how to install countermeasures.

Landslide. Width: 60 m, Length: 110 m, Height: 60 m, Scarp is about 20m in height. 

Main scarp.

Debris deposited at the middle of the slope.

Debris deposited at the toe of the landslide.

Landslide - Kashiwazaki Omigawa -                               (19th Jul 07)

Landslide. Width: 65 m, Length: 45 m, Height: 35 m

Debris deposited on the railroad.

Water was leaking out on the surface
