Japanese
History
Year Research Projects
1922-
The Civil Engineering Laboratory (the predecessor of the PWRI) was established under the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs. The research team belonged to the Division 4 of the Civil Engineering Laboratory.

We conducted research and analysis that were focused on:
  • aggregate;
  • concrete for pavement; and
  • thermal property of mass concrete for dam construction.
1938- We conducted research and analysis that were focused on design, material, and construction of concrete structures.
1948-
1950-
We conducted research and analysis that were focused on:
  • air-entrained concrete; and
  • design method of concrete structures based on plasticity.

1955-
We conducted research and analysis that were focused on:
  • strength of dam cocnrete under triaxial stress;
  • characteristics of concrete with crushed aggregate;
  • mix proportion of pavement concrete; and
  • quality inspection of concrete.

1975-
We conducted research and analysis that were focused on:
  • durability of concrete (alkali-aggregate reaction, chloride induced corrosion);
  • seismic strength of concrete structures;
  • repair methods for deteriorated concrete structures;
  • (earthquake, chloride induced corrosion);
  • quality control of aggregate for dam concrete; and
  • quality management of concrete.
2001- The research team was reorganized as the Structure Management Technology Team in the Independent Administrative Agency Public Works Research Institute.

We conducted research and analysis that were focused on:
  • design method of concrete structures;
  • quality control and inspection technique for concrete structures; and
  • maintenance of existing concrete structures.
2008- The research team was reorganized as the Concrete and Metallic Materials Research Team.
