This visit was carried out based on the memorandum on research coordination signed between NILIM and IRE in 2009. "AsButon Project for Eco-Friendly Technology" was also added as a theme of the joint project in 2011. Research on utilization of AsButon, a natural rock asphalt produced in Buton Island, Indonesia, has been conducted in this project. Indonesian side, especially Vice Minister Hermanto, has high expectations for the Japanese side in this joint project. They were eagerly listening to the explanations of research outcomes in the observation of the AsButon experiment and actively discussed with researchers. Both sides are going to carry out research as scheduled and exchange opinions to make practical use of the technology.
