Editor´s Note

I play a variety of sports. I have been playing soccer since my childhood. I have also played badminton and table tennis a little, and winter sports such as ice hockey, speed skating and skiing. I'm now into dog sledding.
Dog sleds that used to be used for transporting goods are now used for winter sport. Races are held in pure breed (pedigree) and open (crossbreed) classes. Dogs are divided into classes to make races fairer, as crossbred dogs are more proficient in many ways. The race distances vary according to the number of dogs pulling a sled, which can range from 1 to 10. The rider is called a musher. If the master-subordinate relationship between the musher and dogs is not stable, the dogs don't run at all. Dogs can run well in races only if the musher can establish a trustful relationship with them, and make them think it's fun to run. A proper master-subordinate relationship can be formed by treating the dogs with affection instead of scolding them. If you have a sense of unity with the dogs, you tend to set faster times in races and acquire a greater sense of achievement.
People living in cold regions can enjoy things that can only be experienced in such regions. The Civil Engineering Research Institute for Cold Region is committed to research activities to improve the lives of people living in cold regions.
