Research Cooperation Agreement with the Mekong River Commission

On March 21, 2003, during the Third World Water Forum held in the Japanese city of Kyoto, an Agreement of Cooperation on the Mekong River was concluded between the Mekong River Commission, the National Institute for Rural Engineering and PWRI. The signing of the agreement was presided over by Mr. Kenyu Komura, Director of the River Planning Department at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Mr. Masami Yasunaka, Director of Research and Development at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

This agreement was concluded by the three parties in order for PWRI and the National Institute for Rural Engineering to promote the environmental project, entitled "Development of Models to Predict Changes in Water Resources which Accompany Manmade and Natural Changes in Asian Monsoon Regions," being undertaken by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. It is hoped that the agreement will lead to future research projects through the exchange of research personnel and data, and the joint holding of conferences.
